Homemade Body Scrub

How To Easily Make Your Very Own Homemade Coconut Oil Body Scrub:
What You Will Need:
- Sugar (or salt)
- Organic Coconut Oil (like Nutiva)
- Spoon and Bowl
Note: Sugar is more gentle on the skin, so I use regular table sugar. For my daughter, who has very sensitive skin, she uses dark brown sugar which works best for her.
- Place a cup of salt or sugar in a container (or use less)
- Place half that amount of oil in the container and mix with a spoon
- In the bath tub, take a spoonful of the body scrub you just made and rub it all over your body in a circular motion. You can wear bath mitts or use your hands.
- Scrub your entire body with the mixture and rinse
- Pat your skin dry with a towel
- Clean the bath tub area so it’s not slippery from the oil
SOME TIPS:
- Use sugar or dark brown sugar for sensitive skin
- Use a good organic coconut oil
- You want to use one part oil to two parts sugar (or salt)
- If you use salt, it will settle to the bottom
- Add a few drops of your favorite essential oil to it
- You can use exfoliating gloves or bath mitts
- In sensitive areas of the body, like the neck and chest, be gentle
- If you find it to be too harsh on your skin, just use the oil in those areas
- Rinse thoroughly
This works well for people with really dry skin, especially in the winter months. It’s really great for exfoliating the skin and removing the dead skin cells. I, personally, like to do this once a month for beautiful, healthy, glowing skin.

Is sugar the magic ingredient in those expensive body scrubs? thanks for the recipe. I bet it’s really luxurious.

Yes, most body scrubs contain such ingredients including coffee grinds and jojoba beads that work to remove the dead skin cells.

Great post, Melissa. Now I’ve got a use for all that table sugar that Jim says I can’t have anymore!

Great tip, I can never find a good body scrub that gives me a deep clean. Most are too soft for my skin. This way I can make it to a consistency I like.

A sugar scrub is an exfoliating procedure, offered as a body treatment in spas. It smooths your skin, removes the outer, dead layers of skin cells revealing younger healthier cells underneath. You can use any kind of sugar, including ordinary table sugar, brown sugar, muscovado sugar, date sugar or a combination of sugars. Sugar is combined with a liquid which can be water, an herbal tea or massage oil to dampen the crystals. Does this Spark an idea?
